Sevier County building permits offer encouraging economic trend

Some encouraging economic news was released by Sevier County’s office of economic development Dec. 7. The number of building permits in Sevier County climbed for the first time since 2006.

The number of new stick built home permits issued by the county and Richfield City totaled 127 in 2006 — the highest point in the decade. However, since 2006 building permit numbers have been in decline. The permit numbers were down 21 percent in 2007, 50 percent in 2008 and 32 percent in 2009.
However, with a month left in the year, 2010 has seen an 18.72 percent increase — a total of 37 permits. Richfield Reaper
